Does Your State Like Cats or Dogs?

For this week, we had to create a choropleth map. I wasn’t sure where to start or what I wanted to make my map about honestly, so I got to internet searching and ended up on a pet preference by state article. For this assignment, I chose to use Photoshop. Honestly, I had a lot more trouble with this than I thought I would. It’s been quite some time since I spent time in photoshop. I did the best I could, given I didn’t want to try this in Canva. Photoshop seemed like the most user-friendly option for this assignment and although I struggled I did enjoy making this. That being said, research for this took about 10 minutes while the map took about 2 hours. All of my information was found from Pawlicy.

I chose a gray, neural background for the map so that the text and featured map colors would all show up visibly. I chose a dark blue into dark green color scheme. In the beginning I thought this color scheme would look well. However, I realized after I should’ve chosen something lighter because I ended up needing to go through and refill in all of the state abbreviations because of the dark color against thin text.

Overall, I enjoyed this assignment. Choosing that many different colors makes these fun and I’m looking forward to making more in the future.
