According to a Pew Research Center report dated March 26, 2020, out of 10 Americans, 3 have used a dating site or app. This means that roughly 100 Million of the American population has used a dating site or app. In 2013, Pew Research Center did research on online dating from 2005 and then in 2013. From 2005 to 2013 the percentage of people saying that online dating is a good way for people to meet went up 15%.
More people are using online dating nowadays. People are more attached to their phones and becoming less face to face interaction centered. I got the chance to talk to some of my friends about this. My friends have used online dating. They said that it’s a good way to talk to someone if you are nervous about talking to someone in person and being the person to initiate a conversation with someone that you see in public. One of my friends is now engaged with someone that she met on Bumble.
Only 39% of online daters have been in a committed relationship or married someone they met online. This means that online dating is becoming more and more successful. 77% of online daters have gone on a date with or met someone they met online. More people are becoming comfortable meeting up with someone that they have been connecting with online.
The success rate and effectiveness is just about the same as dating someone you met in person. 54% of Americans say that meeting someone online is just as successful as having a relationship with someone you met in person. 50% of Americans say that there is neither a positive or negative effect on online dating relationships. This is just another way for people to meet. When you meet someone in person for the first time that you do not know, they are a stranger to you just like the people you meet online. The difference is that you are meeting in person first instead of talking online and then meeting. People that use online dating develop good communication by video chatting, texting first and then meeting in person and developing a physical and emotional connection.
