2020 Wage Statistics in the U.S.

This week I decided to focus my economics and money infographic on minimum wages in the United States. This then turned into an infographic that displays not only minimum wages, but also a pie chart of gender representation in the workforce, and how the coronavirus pandemic is affecting families and individuals. This entire infographic took me about two hours with research and the overall creation of it. I made the infographic in canva, as well as the bar chart and the pie chart. The choropleth map I created in Photoshop.

I started out this week by creating a choropleth map that displays 2020 minimum wages by state. I thought this was an interesting topic because I have always been amazed at how low the minimum wage is in Pennsylvania. However, after completing this map, I learned that most states fall within the same range of minimum wages. I found all of my information for this part of the infographic on PayCor.com. I found it very interesting that the west coast has much higher ranges than the east coast, yet some states minimum wages are as low as $5.15 like Wyoming and Georgia.

I then decided that I wanted to take this a bit further by adding in a pie chart that displays the amount of male to female workers. I found this information from the Washington Post. I think it is very interesting to note that although the difference is not major, it is exciting to see how women are being represented in the working world.

Finally, I wanted to add some relevancy to this infographic by discussing the coronavirus and how American’s are anxious that by not being able to work (if they aren’t essential workers) that they may not be able to support their families. I found this information from American Banker.
