Males vs. Females…How Do They Use Their Time?

Above is the statistical data on Belgium Males’ Time Use for four main activities: Personal Care, Sleep, Eating, and Employment.

For this infographic, I used Microsoft Excel to best present this data provided by Telecom Datasets. I chose Excel because I found this program to be useful and effective for last week’s assignment, and this week I felt a bit more comfortable and familiar with it.

It was a bit more difficult for me this week to find a dataset that was easy to make sense of and translated well into graph form. Last week, I used a bar graph and a line graph to represent the dataset. This week I switched it up. For Chart 1 (Male Time Use), I used a 3-D Stacked Area Chart. Chart 2 (Female Time Use) is a 3-D Pie Chart.

I specifically chose this dataset because I noticed a lot of people did charts and graphs based in the United States. From there, I got the idea to research data to see how adults from other countries spend their time compared to American males & females. It was interesting to see how people different countries choose to spend their time, and understand more about how their cultures work.

The design behind these charts is much more creative than the first graphs I created last week. My goal was to creative this week’s charts as informative and visually appealing as possible. These graphs remind me of an infographic I would see in a high school textbook, for it’s simplistic yet explanatory nature.
